The Bible tells us that our words have power. This means that what we say really matters. This blog post will show you what you need to know about the power of words.
Have you recently thought about the things that you say? Do you know the power of your words? The Bible tells us that we can literally speak life over ourselves and others. We can also allow unfruitful words to speak darkness into our atmosphere if we are not paying attention to how we talk.
The Power of Words: Where Did This Power Come From?
We know from the book of Genesis that God formed Adam from the dirt of the ground and breathed the breath of life into his lungs. Man was then a living being. (From Genesis 2:7)
It’s the Lord’s breath in our lungs. The same breath that flowed from the lips of the creator of the heavens and the earth. He gave us the same power to speak life and shape our surroundings.
The Bible says that we are to renew our minds with God’s Word. His Word has the power to transform our lives. It is so beneficial to declare God’s truth over ourselves, others and the world around us. He is the almighty authority. His Word never returns void – what He says will be done. What if we really began to believe that and act on it?
Use The Power of Words To Speak Life
Because our words have so much power, we are to use them to speak life over ourselves, others and the world around us. We know this from Proverbs 10:11.
Try speaking scripture out loud daily and see how it transforms your heart and mind with consistent effort.
When you find yourself feeling unhappy with your appearance, find truth in Psalm 139:14 – I will give thanks and praise to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well.
When you’re feeling like a failure – But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. Isaiah 43:1
When you’re feeling afraid – For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control]. 2 Timothy 1:7
Use The Power Of Words To Speak With Wisdom
We are to also be conscious of the words we are saying. Taking into consideration the effects that they will have.
This may involve self control and careful practice. We all know how easy it can be to say something that we instantly regret. It’s also easy to use common sayings or words without really knowing their meanings.
The tongue is one of the smallest body parts but the power of it’s words is enough to build someone up or tear someone down. James 3:5 says “Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.”
When we know the power of words and what scripture says about using our tongue wisely, we have a better understanding of how we should be speaking.
Some of the things that you can be mindful of are: declaring scripture out loud, denying gossip to come from your lips, praying over your home, loved ones, yourself etc, encouraging those around you.
Daily Application Of Our Words
We can use our words to do so much. What we say and hear over and over again has an impact on our mindset and our hearts.
Think about how we can impact our family members, our friends, those around us. By just offering an encouraging word to someone or offering to pray for someone can affect their heart.
Hearing ourselves repetitively declaring scripture aloud can change our own hearts and minds.
Being mindful of what we say and how we say it, even when it’s difficult, is important. A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger – Proverbs 15:1.
Closing Prayer
Lord, I ask that you would stir the heart of the woman reading this post. Let her begin to understand how much power she has through her words. Lead her to your Word where we can find all truth and so much encouragement. Show her where she can use the power of her words to lift up those around her. Show her how to be wise and use her mouth to be a well of life and not darkness. I pray that the Holy Spirit would put a desire in her heart to learn more and turn to you for knowledge and understanding. In Jesus’ name, amen.
