Have you ever wondered what your calling is in life? If you know what God has called you to do, have you wondered how to get there? Maybe you have done A LOT of pondering on this subject. Today I want to show you “2 Amazing Things God Has Revealed About Our Destiny”.
To preface this, I want to begin by saying that I didn’t always have a close relationship with the Lord. This caused me to try and figure out my life’s work through my own strength. I went to college twice and I currently don’t work in either of the fields I studied for! None of that is relevant (although at the time I thought it would be) because the Lord qualifies us for the destiny. He has already set it out for us. Before I had a relationship with the Lord, I was trying to find my place and passion on my own without consulting and bringing Him into the decisions that I made.
The funny thing is that as I started to really give my life to Him and allow Him to work on my heart, He revealed my calling to me… And oh my goodness, was it the total opposite of what I thought I’d be doing! It’s still a work in progress and I am still learning balance but I believe that the Lord has great plans for this ministry and will grow it as He sees fit.
He Will Use Your Story For His Glory!
My story involves deliverance from past experiences that caused pain and trauma that planted seeds of fear and depression. If this is you, read Encouragement For The Girl Going Through A Difficult Season. Through God’s grace, He pulled me out of a very low place that I was in for quite some time. I was good at hiding it and many wouldn’t know what I had gone through, but I was on a path that could have led to self destruction if I didn’t know that there was a Jesus who loved me and wanted to heal my heart.
For years all I wanted to do was forget about the past and strive forward trying to make something of myself. I have reflected on this many times and the striving to make something of myself was because I didn’t feel like I was worthy on my own. I needed to do something great to feel like I was deserving of acceptance so I set off on a journey to build myself a life that was worthy of it. This included taking out loans for college more than once and hopping around from a few different jobs and industries. I never quite felt settled in any of it.
Then the Lord started speaking to me about my story and reminding me of how He healed my heart and rid me of high functioning depression, anxiety, fear and PTSD. He slowly started showing me that my life could be a living testimony of His grace, His love and His mercy. Since then, He has put a desire in my heart to help women who may be struggling with the same things that I was.
Here are two amazing things that God has revealed to me about our destiny.
#1 – Our Destiny Is a Promise
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.“
Jeremiah 29:11 NIV
The Lord says this directly. He has good plans for us that will prosper us and will give us a hope and a future. The Amplified Version says “..thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome.” God’s word does not return void. In Isaiah 55:11 (Amplified Version) the Lord declares “So will My word be which goes out of My mouth; It will not return to Me void (useless, without result), Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it”. This means that what He says He will see through to completion.
So He tells us directly that He has plans for our future. He has a purpose and a calling for our lives. He has a destiny in mind for us. And because His word will not return void, without accomplishing what He desires, this will come to pass.
Of course, the Lord gives us free will and if we choose not to live in relationship with Him we may not accomplish all that we want to because His hand is not in it. Take my striving to find a fulfilling career, for example. I made those decisions without inviting Him into them and ended up expending a lot of time and resources just floundering around.
#2 – He Has a Plan to Help Us Fulfil Our Destiny
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
Romans 8:28 NIV
The Lord has a plan for our lives and He is going to go before us to pave the way so that we may have favor in living out that plan. He will perfect all that concerns us and open doors of opportunity so that as we walk with Him, our destiny will come to fruition through His power.
We don’t need to strive to build a successful or fulfilling life though our own strength. God is our strength and He knows, above anyone else, what we need and what will bring us joy and great purpose.
How Do I Know What My Destiny Is?
You may be asking this question if you aren’t sure what the Lord has called you to do. The best answer is to seek Him with persistence and pray for the Holy Spirit to help reveal this to you.
In Jeremiah 29: 12 – 14, the Lord gives us direction right after He declares that He has plans for our future:
• Call on Him and pray and He will listen.
• Seek Him with all your heart and you will find Him.
My hope is that you have found encouragement in knowing that the Lord does have a plan for your life. He sees the entire timeline of your life and although you may be in a low place or confused about where your life is going, He knows the plans He has for you. I hope that reading “2 Amazing Things God Has Revealed About Our Destiny” has brought some excitement back into your walk with the Lord and that it will encourage you to seek Him regarding your own destiny.
Closing Prayer
Lord, I thank you for being such a good Abba, Father. I praise your name, for who else can perfect all that concerns us and our destiny?! Thank you, Lord, that you have good plans for our futures. You not only give us this promise, but you also give us a plan to accomplish the things that you have set before us. I speak encouragement over the ones who are reading this and ask that in their seek of you, Lord, that you would reveal to them their calling. I rebuke any spirit of doubt that would prevent them from receiving a word from you, Lord. Instead, I declare that they will be filled with the Holy Spirit and with inspiration that will build their faith and deepen their walk with you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
